Seize the day: How to jump start your Spanish vocabulary

Updated: May 20, 2021

Check out a couple of my previous blogs:

As I mentioned in my Conversational Spanish blog, think about the quadruple threat to boost your Spanish: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

In this blog, I will focus on reading. But remember, reading can also cover:

- listening... if someone is reading a book to you, or you have the audio of a book

- speaking... if you are reading a book aloud

G E T C R E A T I V E . Learning is meant to be fun!

Let me recommend some reading material to get you started. Of course, these depend on your age and interests. But in general, I have really enjoyed the TPRS® books (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling®).

You can also look online for bilingual material of interest. And children's books are always fun! However, this is more for children or adults willing to start learning Spanish as their childlike selves. haha Whatever age you are, I recommend trying to have the mindset of learning to let go... to give yourself the chance to relax and learn in a way that can be fun. Yes, you can learn Spanish or any language that you want. So what are you waiting for?

Nota: Regarding books... if you can, I always recommend to go authentic, originally in the Spanish language, such as "¡Qué montón de Tamales!" above. That way you can enjoy the cultural benefit of what you are reading as well. BONUS!

There are also various grammar books you can use to practice the grammar side of things. Remember that learning a new language is a combination of learning grammar and vocabulary.

Consider tutoring with me as a fast-track toward your language learning goals. We all have different goals and time frames. That's why I think tutoring is so great. It's a one-on-one specialized time to learn the areas of Spanish that are of interest to you. For example, some people want to speak conversationally or use Spanish for their job. Others are trying to pass a class in school. And the youngest students are getting their grove on early.

I always tell people...

(1) motivation and dedication... this is HUGE!

(2) attitude and willingness to learn... this effects your ability to learn

The more time you put into learning and studying on your own (outside of the tutoring time), the more you will learn in a shorter amount of time. Think of gardening. The plants don't just plant themselves! Get your hands dirty. Go ahead. It's just about taking that first step.

So, if you are interested. I enjoy working with all ages and stages. I would love to hear from you! Or start with getting a book. lol
