Who is Julia Naranja?
Yes, there is a story behind the name. Back in 2006-2007, I was living in Jacó, Costa Rica. I signed up for my first surf competition and I was very nervous. I wouldn't normally compete in surfing, but on this day in particular, I had the opportunity. My friend, Daniel, decided to call me Julia Naranja at this event and it turned into my Spanish nickname. My first name is Julie, so Julia in Spanish. And my last name is Nanninga, so it's a fun spin on the word for orange in Spanish.
I like Julia Naranja because it means Orange Julius (a blend of frozen orange juice concentrate, milk, vanilla, sugar, and ice). A yummy drink!
